Geocache Description:

This event is a great introduction into geocaching for beginners, come learn and test your skills or join a team. It’s time for yet another geocaching event which will test your mapping, caching and, yes, even your mental prowess.

This Nordic Heritage event will be a place for both new and old geocacher to meet, learn about, talk about finding caches and generally having a good time. After a meet and greet period we will have a little friendly competion to help refine our skills as geocacher and get to know one another better. The competition takes place on October 21, 2006, and starts just in front of the info kiosk in the parking lot of the Nordic Heritage Center. All teams will meet up at 9:00AM. We start off at 9:30AM and go our separate ways for the day, and then meet in the same place by 2:00PM, this should give you plenty of time for a little more geocaching after the competition.

Everyone will get a map and a cache list sheet, also there will be no caches at the Nordic Heritage Center that are for members only for the event so geocachers new and old are welcome.

The Premise of the Competition: We start at the parking lot, we meet at the park lot, whoever gets the most caches/points within the facility (on this trip only) wins... meaning if you have already gotten a few of the caches in the area, you'd better hope others can't do the area in a day ;-) You will be given a list of all the caches (including when they were last relocated) and a facility map when you register. The list will include the most up to date listings and coordinates, including several new caches place just before the competition begins.

Again, The end of the competition will be at 2PM when we will be meeting back at parking lot. You can reach caches by foot or by bike. All cache locations are within 20 meters of the trails and all multi and mystery have their parts within 30 meters. There are washrooms and drinking water close to the parking lot. You can bring your own lunch but there will not be a cooking fire.

Please note that FOR EVERY 5 MIN YOU ARE LATE YOU SUBTRACT ONE CACHE FROM YOUR TOTAL

Rules are simple, you can work as a group but each group will get only one prize, you can not have found the location before unless it has been relocated, and you must have a registered user name with Geocaching.com. The high score wins, you get one point for each traditional type cache and two points for a mystery or multi cache.

There will be prizes for as many posistions as we have donated prizes... Tiebreaker rules: In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the following criteria

1. Which competitor has done the highest total rated cache (Terrain+Difficulty) on this trip
2. Total DNFs for the day (which the cacher is willing to admit)
3. In the unlikely event of a tie at this stage, the competitors still tied will fight a grueling match of best of 3 rock - paper - sissors

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS: From the North traveling south on US highway 1 south to Presque Isle, after crossing the Aroostook River Bridge, turn left on to Route 167 at the Aroostook Centre Mall or From the South traveling north on US highway 1 through Presque Isle turning right at the Aroostook Centre Mall on to Route 167. Travel east on route 167 for approximately 5 miles. Just past Quoggy Jo downhill ski area (on your left), there is a red Nordic Heritage Center sign building on the left, take a left onto the Nordic Heritage access road. The venue is 3/4 mile.
