Geocache Description:

A bracing walk along the seafront at Newcastle. 2.3km/1.2miles (round trip), shingle, sand. Some boulder-scrambling required to get the cache.

The North beach at Newcastle is formed by cold-water currents which carry eroded sand from further down the coast, and deposit it along a seven-mile stretch of shoreline. Wind action has built up a complex dune system behind the beach.

The setting: Car parking is available at Railway street N54º 12.877 W5º 53.214. Please remember to conceal all valuables and lock your car before leaving it.

Walk E onto the beach and then turn NE towards the cache site.

The imposing red-brick building to your left is the Slieve Donard Hotel. At the cache site, dunes protect the championship golf course at Royal County Down - considered by some to be the finest links course in the world.

The cache: A "small" category tab-lock box 8x4cm is concealed above the large boulders which are an artifical sea defence. Some diligence may be needed to find it (getting the wooden posts in line from sea to land, may help). Note that the area can be busy during summer weekends.

Please help to keep the cache area tidy by CITO, when you visit - Tx.
