Magnum PI was my man...
In theory anyway, all us guys are human. Being human, it's hard not to feel a little twinge of jealousy when you run across a guy like Magnum. Ex-Navy Seal, Pro Ball Player, and gainfully employed as the PI to the stars in Hawaii. He had the car, the house, all the female fans anyone could ever dreamed of having AND even with a little fumbling about, he still always got the bad guys...
But you found yourself rooting for Magnum, TJ, and Rick because they were just "guys" and they had something very human about them. One of our favorite parts of the show was when Magnum would pull into the Robin Masters' Estate where he lived and was in charge of security for some unexplained reason. There he would engage in these hilarious dialogues with Higgins the estate caretaker.
The estate (Robins Nest) used in the filming of the show is located in Waimanalo. Since we didn't think that we could get the current owners to allow us to put a cache on the property and invite all of our caching friends in, we put one 1,250 feet directly above it.
This cache can be found along the Makapu'u - Tom-Tom Trail and since the new parking lot at the trailhead is now complete and parking will no longer be a part of this adventure, we thought we'd give the seekers of "And we have liftoff" (GCGB35) and "Manana-Kaohikaipu" (GCN17A)caches another reason to walk a little further on what we feel is the best-view hikes on East Oahu. Follow the instructions on those cache pages if you need further assistance in finding the trail.
Cache is an ammo box painted brown and is about 6-8 feet away from the cliff's edge under a bush. If you can see straight down, you are searching in the wrong place. DO NOT be lured to the dangerous side.
