Cattaraugus Creek#2 Scoby Dam Park Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: Greetings!

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When/if repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem! Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Geocache Description:

If you don't want to get muddy..........then DON'T do this cache. As in the "OLD" days, you will work for this cache and be very happy that you did so once you have found it.

This cache is loaded with all kinds of goodies!!

This is the 2nd cache of a series of caches for Cattaraugus Creek. It begins at Scoby Dam Park. Access the parking area N 42°29.012 W078°42.006 off rte 219, south of Springville on Scoby Hill Road. One thing to keep in mind is that the park closes at sunset and the gates are then locked. Originally this cache was a multi cache with a letterbox twist. Unfortunately, some visitors to this area took the liberty of stealing the first part of the original cache.

The cache is a .50 caliber ammo box containing the traditional treasures and logbook. I must ask that you PLEASE replace the cache box to its original spot and cover it well.

Cattaraugus Creek is the largest of the four primary watercourses that forms the southern boundary of the Village of Springville in the Town of Concord, draining a portion of southwest Erie County before flowing into Lake Erie.

Take some time at the dam before or after you hunt for the cache. This is a nice area and is now maintained by the Erie County Parks Department. We saw a beaver above the dam on one of our visits, it kept surfacing and slapping the water with it's tail.

The cache site takes on another two county view. Satellites were not real cooperative even though there is a clear view of the sky. The gorge walls seem to play games with the signals. One thing to keep in mind while approaching the cache site is that we did not place it near the water. From 100 to 150 feet away watch your needle... it will hopefully send you in the right direction. The cache site will be evident from this distance... We don't have to tell you anymore than that! BUT.... The clue has been updated on 7/23/2006 to help you recover the cache more easily if you so desire. Please trade treasures, read the log intro, sign the logbook and enjoy the area!
