Geocache Description:

Short and steep climb from camping place. No path leads there, just pick up your way carefully through low vegetation and rocks.

Visit this new very large dam that not many people know about. You may well be the only visitor there. Report at the office which is next to the road before you reach the dam. At the end of the gravel road you will find camping area with ablution block and a ramp for launching your boat. There is no shop, in fact there is no shop within 50 km radius of the dam. Everything is new. Trees planted in camping area are small, giving no shade. You can do fishing, water skiing and mountain biking. Mountain bike trail has long, steep gradients.

Cache itself is higher up with nice view of campsite and dam wall. To your left is now flooded canyon, where there was the best kloofing trail in South Africa. Check pictures, showing the canyon before the wall was built. Cache is hidden under a few big stones. You will need some strength to lift the stones. No small stones around. It is in coffee tin. Inside is canvas Teddy bear, postage stamps and marbles.

There is only one possible approach to the dam and that is from the South, namely from Vryheid - Lowsburg road.

Visitors coming from the North!

Don't even switch on your GPS until you are on this paved road. To turn off for the dam from any other paved road, even with GPS showing short distance and right direction will not get you there. These roads just end in the mountains. Road distance from small town of Paulpietersburg to the dam is 100 km notwithstanding your GPS reading of 20 km. Study your road map atlas beforehand.
