Geocache Description:

Cache is a whizbang (35mm-size screw-top) containing only a log. Please bring your own writing instrument. Requires about a two-tenths of a mile walk from parking.

I was a kid when I first heard about Johnny Appleseed. At that time I thought he was a fictional character like Ichabod Crane or Rip Van Winkle. Then I learned he was authentic, an early American wanderer who planted apple seeds wherever he went, sometimes in unlikely places.

Not long ago I launched an in-depth study of this man. Beginning with Wikipedia and quickly moving on to our local library, then the extensive inventory of Amazon-dot-Com, I reaffirmed everything I had picked up over the years, but also learned so much more. The more I read, the more enthralled I became. Soon I was skipping entire meals to read about him, sustained only by an endless supply of Diet Coke, one after another, bottle after bottle.

Today I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Johnny Appleseed, but now I’m haunted by two questions: First, what would he be doing if he were with us today and, second, what am I going to do with all those empty plastic bottles of Diet Coke???
