Geocache Description:

On January 22nd at 6:00 pm (that's Indiana time), come and meet with other geocachers for dinner and a night of swapping stories!

If you're from this area you've heard the stories, you've seen the scars, you may have even heard the sobbing late at night. What's all the commotion about? Coal Miner's Cabin Again.

"Coal Miner's Cabin Again" is one of the most physically challenging caches in the Wabash Valley area. The terrain is rough and wet (even when it should be dry). It's not a cache to be taken lightly. Those who have taken the challenge and completed this cache need to be celebrated.

Those who haven't survived need to be mourned and remembered.

On January 22nd at 6:00 pm (Indiana time) we will meet at Giuseppe's in Clinton, IN for a meet n' greet event cache. The menu will include spaghetti and veal as well as side items. Giuseppe's serves family style and the cost will be $12.00 per adult (adjustments will be made for children) plus drinks.

Of course, the event is open to everyone who would like to attend. It will be a great time to sit and enjoy each other's company and swap a few war stories. You do not have to complete "Coal Miner's Cabin Again" in order to attend. However.....

If you are interested in attempting "Coal Miner's Cabin Again," a group will be meeting at 3:00 (Indiana time) on January 22nd at the watertower in Universal, IN to do the cache together. We're estimating it will take about two hours to complete this cache. You should definitely plan on bringing a change of clothing (especially if you are attending the event at Giuseppe's later).

Coordinates for the watertower are: N 39° 37.330 W 087° 27.201

If you are interested in the expedition to Coal Miner's Cabin, please email CYBret so we can get an accurate count.

If you are planning on attending the event at Giuseppe's, please post a note on this cache page, so we can also get a count.

Thanks to Magellan for supplying us with prizes for this event
Special thanks to Magellan for supplying us with prizes for this event!

UPDATE!!!!

We're coming down to the wire on this event. There is some information we need in order to make sure things go smoothly.

1. If you have not posted your intention to attend, please do so and indicate whether you will be coming to do the cache or coming to the dinner event or both. We need accurate counts for both.

2. Please be sure you are adequetly prepared for the hike out to Coal Miner's Cabin Again. It's very difficult to know what to expect in weather like this, therefore it's best to be a little overprepared. Some items you will want to pack are:

A Change of clothes (Extra socks & Shoes in the car)
FRS Radios
Gloves
Hats
Scarves
Water
Handwarmers
snacks (powerbars/candybars)
hiking sticks
Compass
Camera

Remember to dress in layers (like your mama taught you).

Please also remember, if you are coming alone let someone (a family member or a friend back home) know where you are going and when to expect you back.

If you have any special medical concerns please make sure that you tell someone in the group before we leave.

Also, keep watching this page for possible changes of plans due to weather conditions. If you aren't going to be able to watch the page on the 22nd, please email me (CYBret) and I will give you my contact info.
