Geocache Description:

Take a walk on the Fault.

From Pine Mountain Club Camp Grounds (N 34 51.476, W 119 10.457) it's a fairly easy hike along the San Andreas Rift to the cache. Elev gain about 250 ft. Cache is a 3.5-inch white plastic medicine bottle suspended by a rawhide lace. Sorry, the bottle contains no meds. Original contents:

Log/2 small pencils
Antique can-opener
Mardi Gras beads (used once)
2-inch Crescent wrench
Bali sea shell and sea glass
50 Year Commemorative El Camino College pin
Formula One Graphite money clip (empty)

The panoramic view of the San Andreas Rift Valley framed by the twin 8,000 foot peaks of Mt. Pinos and Cerro Noreste is worth the trip, even if someone beats you to the money clip.

Stand on the nearby ledge and try to imagine what this valley looked and felt like Jan 9, 1857, when the plates broke loose and the Great 8.0 Fort Tejon Earthquake devastated the region. The earth opened 40-60 feet early that Friday morning, then slammed shut, leaving an amazing surface rupture over 225 miles long, displaced by 30 feet. Local geoologists say the shaking, which lasted 2-3 minutes, was so severe that the tops of the pines were snapped off. You can still see the result on many of the old trees in the area.
