The Cache Across America Series: This is a
series of caches that will take you on a caching tour of the entire
United States. One cache is hidden in each of the 50 states. These
caches each contain a numeric clue that will lead you to
one final cache located in our nation's capitol upon completion
of the series. |
About this cache:
This cache will take you to a hidden waterfall in Eden, North
Carolina.
My family and I found this little hideaway while investigating an
interesting but lifeless park. I've only lived here for a short
time but my co-workers who grew up here have never heard of this
waterfall. Morehead Park is the site of an old cotton mill that is
long-since gone. The stone foundation still remains and almost
looks like a quary from the road. To access the cache you will need
to actually enter from inside the foundation which is part of the
park. Do Not Attempt This Cache From Any Other
Direction! Not only is the surrounding area private
property but serious injury is likely.
Here are my recommendations:
1. Wear shorts and shoes with good traction. You
WILL be crossing water and getting your lower legs
wet. There is NO way around it.
2. Seal everything in ziplok bags or other waterproof containers or
leave it on the shore. Did I mention you WILL get
wet?
3. Bring a walking stick, or better yet, bring 2. You will be
stepping on loose river stone, some of which you cannot see.
4. Bring a camera. This site is absolutely beautiful.
My Warnings:
1. Do Not try to access cache from opposite bank
or accross bridge as stated before. You will VERY likely get
seriously hurt and ruin your day.
2. Do Not attempt this cache after a hard rain. It
is a waterfall. You can imagine the rest. Don't worry. You'll know
right away if you should not do it. Average depth is no more than
calf in most spots and knees if you pick your route poorly. Any
higher than that I wouldn't do it.
3. Closely supervise your children. I let my kids play here but I
am watching them like a hawk. They love it here.
4. I would not attempt this at night. I have seen evidence of
transients and other partiers but I have not seen them in person
during the day.
WARNING: This is a real world
cache with real world dangers. When you are at Ground Zero you will
plainly see the cache. You WILL NOT have to dig through the hiding
material to find it. Doing so will put you at GREAT risk. If you do
not see the container without moving hiding material then the cache
is not there or is not accessable. Use the last clue as a lifeline
to determine if it is still there. |
Logging Requirements: Enjoy this cache as you
would any other. If you are searching this cache as a participant
in the Cache Across America series, please post a photo of yourself
or a member of your group with the cache in your online log. If you
for some reason are unable to meet the photo requirement, please
make alternate arrangements to verify your find with the individual
cache owner. There is no photo requirement for non-challenge
participants.
Individual verification of all 50 state finds will be required
before logging the series final.
If participating in the series, please take note of the three
digit code located inside this cache. Save this code in a secure
place. When you have visited all 50 caches, and have collected all
50 codes, you are welcome to seek and find the final cache! Good
luck! |
