How Geocaching Works
One of our favorite parks in Ottumwa, and about the only one left without an active cache until now.
This park has quite the real estate. It is nestled between 3 old government buildings, and other old buildings such as St. Mary's of the Visitstion catholic church, and Ottumwa's legendary "Hotel Ottumwa".
Several large group events occur here every year. Events such as:
"Live After Five" which is a free admission entertainment filled evening on Fridays after five during the summer. There is usually a live musical performance, sometimes a movie, and free stuff given out to the public. The event is sponsored mostly by South Ottumwa Savings Bank
Ottumwa High School's crowning of homecoming king and queen ceremony.
The lighting of the Christmas tree
and several weddings.
It is more of an adult park as there are no slides or swings, jungle jims or merry go rounds. However it is still a nice place to go, have a seat at one of the dozen or so benches, and relax. Possibly read a new book even.
Interesting additional fact learned when looking for a good hiding spot, there is a time capsule in this park. It is about 30 feet southwest of gz and looks like a tombstone.
There is also a memorial about thirty feet to the northwest with several names listed. 3 of which share Mr. Darling's last name.
