Located in Chief Logan State Park in Logan County, West Virginia.
Approximately a 1.3 mile hike. Can get a little steep at times but
the trail is WELL MAINTAINED. Might be a little rough on young
children, but then again that depends on the child. Overall a very
enjoyable hike.
The name of the trail is the Guyandotte Beauty Trail...the name
stems from a rare, delicate, and colorful wildflower for which the
trail is named. For all you botany lovers this flower is most
prominent during the month of May...so enjoy! The trail head is
located at the head of Mud Lick Hollow..very easy to find. Do
yourself a favor and pick up a map and trail guide of the park.
This park has a great deal to offer including a nice pool, good
restaurant, camping,playgrounds,picnic shelters,basketball and
tennis courts,an 18-hole miniature golf course, and a new
amphitheater. For more info. call Chief Logan State Park @ (304)
792-7125. Enjoy!

July 7, 2009 by PilotJ (1399 found) Our goal for the day was the 7 caches in Chief Logan SP and this was the last one before we were eligible to go for the new Chief Logan Challenge. Fatique has set in but we are too near our goal to quit now. Nice to see a 2001 cache still going strong. Looks like the owners are out of the game so hope the locals watch over it and keep it going. A great day of hiking with good friends in a really nice park we hadn't visited before. Very impressed with the variety of activities and how clean the park was. Gained some Hiking WV miles and a VIPP stamp. TN LN SL TFTC Pilot J & Crew

July 7, 2009 by WVangler (1199 found) Last cache to log so that I could complete the Chief Logan's Challenge Cache! Wow, what a hike! Got more miles on my WVDNR Hiking Program card and inching closer to my "free" hiking staff! Woo Hoo. Also got another park stamp for the VIPP program. But most importantly got to do some great caching, some great visiting with caching friends WVHunter74, PilotJ & Crew and got to see some great scenery. TFTC. SL TNLN

April 21, 2009 by GPS-Hermit (149 found) Fantastic! Cache! Now we are doing some real Geo-Caching. Parked at the bottom and up I went quite a ways then realized I forgot my GPS, so I went back down and got it. Climb, Climb, Climb - Definitely an uphill cache. I went right after waiting out a pretty good spring rain. All these Chief Logan Trails seem to be pretty good when wet and not all that slick. I had seen the cache location the previous Sunday while doing the Wilderness Trail, and thought what a great place to put a cache. After finding the cache I climbed to the top of the knoll and could see the Lake thru the trees. Loved being up there. I want a cache you have to earn. Great hike! The climb is steep and continuous but very do-able. If you are not in good shape take your time and let your heart settle down and rest often. The trail is plenty wide and does let up for a while before the cache. There is a place to rest at the top, please do so before hunting the cache and relax it is very pretty up there. Signals are great on top. I saw 3 kinds of Wild flowers in bloom on the trail and not sure which one was the Guyandotte Beauty (if any). I didn't take my nice camera because of the threat of rain. There is one tree down across the trail near the top - just climb over it. Saw dear, birds, lizards, squirrels and the biggest ole fat boy chipmunks ever. Later off trail I saw a huge beautiful Pilated Woodpecker - I mean Huge! The climb back down was fun and uses your downhill muscles, so you need good socks for that, to avoid blisters. Hiking boots are great but sneakers will work on this trail too. Recomendation: If you want a longer hike consider doing part of the Wilderness Trail to complete a loop. Park a car OUTSIDE the gate at the Wildlife exhibit and another one at the Beauty Trail head. My GPS said it was 1.3 miles on the Wilderness Trail to the Wildlife Exhibit from the top of the Guyandotte Beauty Trail. I highly recommend the Wilderness trail as well. All Chief Logan trails are great for 2 car hikes - no bad ones. If you are a hiker do them all. Thank you! Thank You! So much for a great hike, great lure to even more quality trails. I will not stop till I do them all. I did do some CITO! Cache in great condition but had alot of dirt on it from storms. Needs more interesting trade items. All well and dry.
