Come join your fellow pirates for a leisurly paddle of Pine Grove. We'll gather at the ramp at 10:30, sign the log book and pose for the obligatory photos and then set sail at 11:00. We'll paddle a little less then 5 miles round trip, and it will take approximately 4 hours. We'll also have a few stops along the way to visit some interesting waypoints, just like in years past.
As of right now, the lake is ~3.5' over it's
normal level, and by June 1st it should be close to normal pool. This means no pushing the boats through the mud like we've had to do at previous events. This portion of Lake Monroe will have little or no current, and it's a no wake zone so there's no worries of bigger boats running us over.
This event is BYOC (Bring Your Own Canoe) There are a few places around that rent canoes and kayaks. If you have a way to transport the boat,
IU Outdoor Adventures in the Student Union is one option.
Most High Adventures will deliver and pick up the boats.
Pine Grove is home to lots of beautiful flaura and fauna. We'll likely see many wading birds like snowy egrets and great blue herons. We'll see lots of different turtle species, and we have on occasion spotted a few bald eagles.
So, put on your eye patch, polish up your peg leg, dust off your life jacket, and come join us for some fun.
