Geocache Description:

This cache is located at Reid Lake in the Huron-Manistee National Forest. It is maintained by the DNR and requires a $3 day pass, a $5 weekend pass, a $20 annual pass, or a $30 family pass.

They do allow primitive camping, and this is an excellent and quiet area for such a thing. The hike to the cache is about 1.8 miles in, and to finish the loop is another 2.2 miles back. So, prepare yourself for a good hike. Bug dope in the summer months is recommended. The terrain is fairly easy going, but there area some hilly sections. They also have a water pump at one of the camping areas and pit toilets around the paths.

The cache is in a well camoflaged container and cannot be seen from the path, but is not far from it. Paperback books fit very well in this container, but you can make any of the following exchanges:

  • Take a book, leave a book.
  • Take a book, leave an item.
  • Take an item, leave a book.
  • Take an item, leave an item.
Whatever strikes your fancy.

Original Books Were: Aztec by Gary Jennings, Longshot by Dick Francis, The Spanish Brothers by D. Alcock, If Tomorrow Comes by S. Sheldon, Dances with Wolves by M. Blake, The 4th Deadly Sin by L. Sanders, Famous Tales of E.A. Poe, and an Eerie Tales mini book (great for ghost stories around the campfire).

Current Books Are (7-19-2006): Follett; The Key to Rebecca... Higgins; The Wrath of God... Drew; Willow... A Spy vs. Spy Classic... London; White Fang... Francis; Longshot... Alcock; The Spanish Brothers... Gram?; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves... Cadnum; St. Peter's Wolf... and there's a Newberry Medal Bookmark which is kinda neat.

PLEASE use the Ziploc Baggies!!! I'm trying to introduce a rule of thumb for the longevity of my and other caches. Putting lots of baggies in a cache is important. Please put all items in a baggie (whether you think it needs it or not (once it gets moist, mold may ensue)). The LOG BOOK should be double bagged with the Pen and Pencil in the outer bag (to prevent poking holes in the bag with the log book). This really helps to keep the contents dry. Even though a container may be sealed when placed, sometimes things may make tiny holes in the container, condensation is the real enemy, and often occurs whether there are holes or not. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMPLIANCE!
