Approximately 190 million years ago, during the late Triassic and
early Jurassic Periods, the land that is today the Connecticut
River Valley was a subtropical region filled with lakes and swamps.
Two-legged, carnivorous dinosaurs crossed these lands leaving
behind footprints in mudflats which were periodically wetted and
dried. These imprints were subsequentially covered with sand
through a sequence of climatic and geological changes over the eons
and the footprints became preserved in the earth.

Follow the short trail downhill that runs parallel with the
highway to an open area of exposed rock. Here in the slightly
tilted sandstone beds, you will be able to find, see, and walk
amongst 134 separate fossilized dinosaur footprints, some plant
impressions, and delicate ripple marks of a prehistoric pool, all
of which have been clearly preserved in stone.
