Geocache Description:

Listen to the latest Harvey Danger CD.

I am a huge fan of the local music scene (see my KGEO - Music to cache by cache). But sharing music that one likes with others is not a simple matter. Sure, we've all made mix tapes for friends but strictly speaking that's not legal unless the makers and owners of the music say it's OK. Well, that is exactly what has happened with the latest Harvey Danger CD. This excellent Seattle band, which had a mainstream #1 hit "Flagpole Sitta" back in 1998, has made their latest CD "Little by Little" freely available for download and distribution over the Internet.

Their reasons for doing this are explained here. Basically it boils down to wanting people to hear their music and because they are NOT about the money. They also hope that after hearing the MP3 versions of the music you will opt to buy a non-MP3 version or make a small donation at their website. If you buy the non-compressed version, either at their web site or at a record store, you also get a bonus CD.

What I have done is made Little by Little CDs and placed them in a cache. My hope is that you will pick up a CD, give it a listen and then buy your own copy and pass the one you got from my cache to another music lover and let the process repeat itself. You don't need to leave a blank CD if you take one but I wouldn't mind if you did! I will do my best to keep the cache stocked with CDs (one to a customer please!).

This subject of placing homemade CDs in caches has been the subject of much discussion in the forums. It was when I read this statement (by the grand poobah of geocaching):

" Harvey Danger's latest album is a good example of something you could include in a cache. In fact, I would allow a Harvey Danger cache."

posted in this forum topic that I was motivated to make this cache. And, as for the title of the cache ... listen to the CD and you'll soon understand.

Sat reception might be a bit tough here and it can get muddy. You are looking for a good size ammo can (thanks to good buddy nolenator for the very nicely cammoed can!) set behind a tree. Look closer towards the road than towards the water and do not go up the hill.

NOTE added 3/12/06 - I emailed the band and they replied with an official thumbs up for this cache so enjoy the music! Jeff from the band said he wished he had the time to try geocaching as it looked very fun.
