Geocache Description:

This is another cache in the Faded Markers Series. This series will mainly focus on older, near forgotten burial plots of pioneers in the Niagara Region and beyond. The goal of this series is not necessarily the length of the walk nor the difficulty of the find, but rather a simple reverence for those who came before us to shape our area.

Located in Woodgale Park, there is a little known family plot which belongs to the McCombs family.

Although there are no visible markers remaining, there are many members of the McCombs family residing here, as well as, many relatives.

This park was once the property of John and Magdalen McCombs and housed a log cabin which many members of the McCombs family resided in and was purchased from John or Joseph Hainer prior to the War of 1812,

John heard about the rich soil at Shipman's Corners, and came to Grantham in 1811. "He laboured for John Hainer until the commencement of hostilities in 1812, when he joined the McKeowi's company, Col. Clause's regiment. John McCombs fought at Niagara, Chippawa, Lundy's Lane and Queenston and with Col. Bishop at the "baking and burning of Buffalo." At the battle of Queenston Heights, according to his own account, he saw "the brave General Brock fall" and was one of those who assisted "to convey the hero's body to Fort George, Niagara."

Now in order to find the cache, there is a plaque located at the posted co-ordinates which is where the family cemetary is.

Answer the following questions:

A) How many children did John and Magdalena McCombs have?

B) How many acres of land did John McCombs receive for his service to the Crown?

C) In the early 60's, how many monuments were transcribed?

D) What was the numerical address of the McComb's homestead?

E) When was the last year in which the cemetary was actively used?

Now follow the formula to get the offset co-ordinates:

[(A x B) + (C x D) + E]/1000

Once you have your offset, add that number to the following North and West Co-ordinates to find the final cache!!!

N43 02.179
W79 07.862

The cache container is a large tupperware container with lots of room for trackables and swag, and please hide it as well or better, as it wasn't hidden by myself all that well, because I fear there may have been poison ivy nearby and I dare not venture back to rehide it.....

Have fun and happy caching!!

DANGER!!! POISON IVY ALERT!!
