Geocache Description:

The Collector Of Souls-Fall Fest 2004

There is a story told among these hills of a woman, an evil woman, that lived by herself out in the thick forest of oak and cedar, amongst the rocks and granite walls long before all the notorious bank and train robbers, cattle rustlers and low life scum of western lore would hide in the caves and grottos dotting the land here. Even the Indians knew of this earthy witch, and would stay away from the evilness that they called the Collector Of Souls!

It was said that on the night of the Darkmoon, when the moon was new and black against the night sky, she would leave the sanctuary of her hollow and look for a new victim. Once she found a lone miner, woodsman or innocent hunter, she would whisk them away to do horrible things to them. It is rumoured that she had made a pact with the unspeakably vile demons of the underworld, where she would collect the souls of her victims thru a bizarre and gruesome ritual and trade them to the creatures in return for her own immortality and power. No one ever knew what happened to the people who disappeared in the woods on those nights of the moon of dark as they would never ever be seen or heard from again, just there dying screams as they fell silent in the darkness! It is also rumoured that she tried to trick the horrible beasts of the underworld and met her own demise in a grotesque way. It is said that if you find the place where her body now rest, you would find all sorts of treasures and riches, some from her victims and others from the creatures she traded with but beware, the Well Of Souls is the entrance to the underworld and who knows what strange beasts are looking for a soul to devour!!!

After doing some research on this local legend, I have come across some extraordinary things in a journal kept by an old miner who lived and toiled in this area. He supposedly met and befriended this dark and mysterious lady of evil, why and how he kept his soul was a mystery to all. From reading and dechyphering his at times rantings and off the cuff proses and drawings, I have come to the conclusion that she is that where she met her demise is very close here. But there is one drawback, it can only be found when the sun goes down and the moon and the planets line up in a perculiar order, which happens to be the night of Saturday, September 25th, 2004. Then the spirits will make themselves appear and guide the willing along the way. You will have to find the Witches Tree, apparently where the gruesome rituals took place, and figure out the clues to find the Hollow of the Damned, a place where the dead isn't dead and again working with the clues from that, you will find and locate the Well of Souls, known as the Gate to the Netherworld, were she met her untimely demise and riches are to be found! All I can say to you hardy adventurers is good luck and be careful, you may never know what is really out there!

This is a 3 part night only cache which should prove to be challanging and fun and hopefully downright scary to some. For those experience night cachers, hopefully this will throw in a few bizarre twists and turns and for you new cachers, please bring a pair of clean underwear to change into afterwards. You will need lights of some sort and I would carry extra batteries and even lights with you at all times. It is a good idea not to go alone as that way you may not lose your soul to some vile creature. At night please take extra precautions as hazards are harder to see and what may have been familiar in the day becomes totally new at night. I would suggest that you leave your GPS on as well as the way in is marked but you are on your own on the way back. Also this cache may not be suitable for younger children or those who may frighten easy!

Please RSVP on the list and for those doing this adventure quest cache, you will pick your maps and packets up Saturday after dinner at my tent which will be flying the Darkmoon banner! As soon as the sun goes down, you have until Sunday morning when the sun rises to do this adventure. Hope to see you all out there!
