Green #2 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lumberjack Tom: Smee had no problem finding this cache, but the ammo can was empty and partially open, which is okay because it's time to put this cache on the shelf anyway.

Geocache Description:

Large ammo box hidden in a small wooded area that will require a light bushwhack to reach. Park in the Haz Bin pull-off before the gate just off Grade Lane at 38*08.032,085*44.264.

As you know, over the years we all tend to accumulate various toxic materials we don't know how to dispose of properly. So how DO we get rid of this stuff before the family dog gets into it?

The answer: The Hazardous Materials Collection program, otherwise known as Haz Bin. This program is run by the Louisville Metro Waste Department and is available to all residents of the Louisville-Jefferson County Metro area. It provides a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted household hazardous materials that are not accepted by household garbage collection or our recycling centers.

Haz Bin is located 7501 Grade Lane but is open to receive materials only twice a week-- Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Among the many things it accepts are pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, lawn and garden chemicals, gasoline and gas/oil mixes, solvents and degreasers, polishes and waxes, automotive fluids, oven and drain cleaners, paints and varnishes, oil-based paint or lead paint, fluorescent light bulbs and propane tanks (1 pound camping and 20 pound grill tanks). They take lots of other items, too, but not everything, so if you have any questions, please call MetroCall at 311 or 574-5000 for clarification.

The ammo box contains toys, a log book and a flier on Louisville Metro recycling guidelines. Please take one. It contains more information on what Haz Bin will and will not accept.
