This is the second of what
will hopefully be several caches down the beautiful Barker
Valley Trail. The cache is just a single mile off the Palomar
Divide Road. It's a nice leisurely 3 miles to the valley, but
it's an easy gentle grade with lots of flat sections. The
trip down is more than worth it once you visit the Valley.
It's one of the gems of San Diego County.
Jerry Schad lists this as
one of the best hikes for wildlife in the county. The Barker Valley
Trail appears as Trip 11 in the Palomar Mountain section of Afoot
and Afield in San Diego County.
The Barker Valley is a large lush
oak grassland surrounded by mountains, and hardly any manmade
structures in sight. It's like a quiet park all to yourself. Best
of all, there's a beautiful stream running through it. It makes an
excellent site for a picnic day hike or an overnight camping
trip.
The cache is a camoed Rubbermaid container.
