Geocache Description:

Located in the Pentland hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Some steep sections, but all on good well maintained paths. Close to the 579m trig point.

The cache is in a smaller size tupperware box placed in a bigger box, and put in a black compost bag. Please re-wrap and cover again carefully as it can get rather wet here, and the sheep will nibble the bags if left exposed. Please ensure that it is well covered with rocks.

The best way to the cache (to get the views) is over the "roller coaster" starting at the Flotterstone Pub. (Note the car park gets very full at weekends). This is about a 5 hour round trip if you are walking and stop for sandwiches.

Alternatively start at the Threipmuir reservoir car park outside Balerno. Either go directly south-east from Bravelaw Castle past GC2BD4, but the final section to the top is quite steep. Alternatively go south, then over West Kip and East Kip then back via the other route. This is not so steep going up. This also takes about 5 hours walking, especially if you take in the "rays" at the top. Bikers should note some of these paths have been closed to bikes due to erosion.

If short of time there is a path up from the main road to the east, which will take about 40 minutes to the top. It is normally very windy so wrap yourself up well, and be careful nothing gets blown away! Apparantly Scald is dialect for blackberry - I have never seen one here!
