[SWE] Under en boxningsmatch i Madison Square Garden New York år 1957, noterade den svenske Folke Andersson att alla åt snacks. Redan samma år installerade han den första produktionslinjen av chips i Sverige. Folke ägde också bananplantager i Sydamerika, vilket kan förklara hans val av namn, Estrella som betyder stjärna på spanska.
Förutom potatischips producerades också popcorn, och andra snacks importerades. Estrella rönte så stora framgångar att han beslöt att satsa på det och lägga ned bananplantagen. När han åkte tillbaka till Sydamerika för att stänga plantagen, högg en avskedad förman ihjäl honom med en machete. Detta till trots gick det så bra för Estrella att de 1987 lanserades i Finland, och 1990 i Danmark.
Estrella var först i Sverige med att introducera Sourcream & Onion, vilken är den mest populära chipssmaken i landet.
Estrella är idag Sveriges största tillverkare av potatischips och vid dess fabrik jobbar cirka 120 personer med att förutom producera chips också tillverkar bland annat ostbågar, jordnötsringar och popcorn.
Chipsen tillverkas av de två potatissorterna Saturna och Lady Rosetta och för att omvandlas till chips genomgår potatisen följande:
• Tvättas och skalas i en roterande trumma där skalet ”slipas” av så att så mycket som möjligt av potatisen kan tas tillvara.
• Inspektion och borttagande av skadade eller för stora potatisar
• De skärs till 1,3 mm skivor
• Sköljs för borttagande av stärkelse för att undvika att skivorna klibbar ihop
• Fritering under mindre än fyra minuter i någon av de två kokarna som tillsammans kan fritera upp till tre ton chips per timme.
• Smaksättning med salt och/eller kryddor
• Paketering

[ENG] During a boxinggame in Madison Square Garden, New York, the Swedish man Folke Andersson noticed that everyone was eating snacks. Later the same year he launched the first production of potatochips in Sweden. Folke also owned banana plantations in South America, which might be the reason he named his company Estrella, the Spanish word for star.
Estrella was so successful that he decided to close down the banana plantation, but when he went there to close it, he was killed by a machete in the hand of a dismissed supervisor. Despite this, Estrella was blooming, and in the year 1987 they launched in Finland, and 1990 in Denmark.
They were first in Sweden to launch the taste Sourcream & Onion, which is the most popular taste of potatochips in the country.
Estrella is today the largest manufacturer of potatochips in Sweden, emplying about 120 people, who not only produce potatochips, but also other snacks like popcorn and cheese doodles.
The type of potato used for the chips is Saturna and Lady Rosetta, and the steps of procedure is generally:
• Washing and peeling
• Inspection and removal of damaged and too large potatoes
• Cutting into 1,3 mm slices
• Rinsing to remove starch that would make the slices stick together
• Frying for maximum four minutes in one of the two fryers that together can hold up to three tons of chips.
• Salt and/or spices is added
• Packaging.
The cache is a one liter plastic container.
