A most scenic view in the Gig Harbor area; east from the cache location you’ll see Mt. Rainier, behind the Tanglewood Island Lighthouse.
The Tanglewood Island Lighthouse and its neighboring round pavilion are remnants of a summer camp called Camp Ta-Ha-Do-Wa. Dr A.L. Schultz was a prominent Tacoma pediatrician who purchased the island in 1933 to build the camp for boys. The camp operated from 1948 to 1972.
Our son Mark came here on a school outing, traveling on an old Navy Landing Craft, from the boat launch in Gig Harbor, to Tanglewood.
This is a favorite spot for anglers and Scuba divers, although the waters here can be treacherous at tide changes.
Cache is small, camouflaged (well, you know me by now), and coordinates have been verified three times, so they should be accurate. Park at the boat launch, and don’t forget to admire the old Pavilion and lighthouse while you are here.
1-5-05 I am increasing the difficulty level here for the winter. 'nuff said.
Bring your own pen- not quite enough room for one in here.
