Geocache Description:

You guys know what happened last time.
Let's give it another go, sans lightning storms!

Saturday, 09-05-15, 7:00pm till 11:00pm

With a few changes, hopefully this trip won't be as confusing as the last one.

You'll notice, I've bumped up the starting time from 8:00pm to 7:00pm.  Hopefully, this will reduce some of the ramp insanity we experienced last time.  It will still be fairly bright out when we meet, so we'll have to wait for the sun to set before the show starts.  Also, I've moved the event from the parking lot to a spot on the water.  For me, it was rather confusing trying to sort out who belonged to which group of paddlers.  Rather than try to compete with roughly 80 gazillion other kayak groups intent on the same show, we'll gather at the posted coords, on the water, and folks can go their own way from there.  I prefer the shallows, as there seems to be more critter movement, which equates to more glow explosions, so I figure I'll head east, into the cove behind the parking area.  I'll follow the shoreline from there, till I feel like heading home.  Maybe a couple hours?  Another nice area is due north of the posted coordinates, following that shoreline.  Conditions for luminescence should be good, so long as the weather holds out.  There is a half moon, but it shouldn't make an appearance till well after Midnight.

One bit of advice; the landing can be fairly challenging to find on your way back, so you should load the posted parking coordinates in your GPS / phone.  Looking for the canal, at night, is difficult, at best.  Another bit of advice; please don't park forward of the boat ramp.  Those folks trying to back boat trailers in, need as much room as possible.  When we block them, they can get grumpy.  If the parking lot is full, you may be able to park on the other side of Haulover Canal.  I've seen kayak tours park there at night.  Check for signage, so you don't run afoul of the Marine Patrol.

There is a $5.00 fee, per vehicle, for the use of this ramp, so bring some cash with you. You will also need a PFD, (life jacket), for each person, a noise producing device for each vessel and a white light, visible for 2 miles, capable of illuminating 360 degrees. (In other words, a good flashlight) You should probably bring bug spray, as Mosquito Lagoon is well named. They will carry you off if you are not protected. Snackage and water are also good ideas.

See you there!
