Located at the confederate breastworks on Route 250, near Churchville. The trail to the cache is fairly covered by leaves but still discernable. Several trails lead up to the breastworks. You may choose to go the long way around, or you may choose the 'right' trail which takes you to the cache in only 1/5 of a mile. The cache sits at an altitude of 3101 ft.
This cache is located in a very interesting site. We chose the site to place this--our very first cache--after visiting it while we lived in the area a few years back. The site was used by the Confederate army to control the nearby valley from any Union army advances. Extensive breastworks were erected, and today, the trails represent the original locations of these breastworks. Signs throughout the hike inform visitors of the rich history involved with the site. Visitors can even see a reconstruction of what the original breastworks looked like and picture what conditions were like back then. And of course, enjoy the breath-taking view of the valley and its surroundings. Enjoy and keep it enjoyable for other cachers.
