Greetings Geocachers! This is George Washington.
You know me as victorious general of the American Revolution and the first President of the United States. During my early life, however, I was a land surveyor. In fact, during the midst of the Revolutionary War, I created the office of "Geographer to the Army," resulting in the first official maps of the United States. I would have been duly impressed by the technology that you now employ to determine geographical positions with such exactitude.
In April 1789, while I traveled along the nearby St. Georges Highway to my first presidential inauguration in New York City, my carriage became waylaid and I found myself near this very spot. I seem to have dropped my letterbox, but perhaps you can find it.
Fortunately, the Daughters of the American Revolution provided a marker in my honor at this location. My letterbox is located 360 feet due East from this marker. Good luck and god speed!
