Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Liebre Summit is the highest point of the Old Ridge Route Road.
Pyramid Lake is visible in the distance. Roadrunners, quail, hawks and rabbits can be seen in this area.

The Ridge Route opened to Bakersfield in 1915. At the time it was only graded and oiled. Paving began in 1917 after the roadway had settled. When initial paving concluded in 1920 the highway was a twenty foot wide slab of reinforced concrete ... just enough room to pass a large oncoming truck.

The Sheriff enforced the 15 MPH speed limit (12 MPH for some heavier trucks). Typical drive time from Los Angeles to Bakersfield was twelve hours.

Donvsop, Jellis and I did some pre-holiday caching for few days down in the fertile Antelope Valley. Much thanks to all the local cachers for the over 400 caches we found along the way.
