This caching adventure will bring you to a beautiful spot off the
beaten path in the Northern Adirondacks, so enjoy the scenery. Due
to the nature of this cache, the difficulty and terrain are
variable, but there are no 1/1 options, and no 5/5 options.
The given coordinates will take you to a "base-cache". Inside
the "base-cache" container, you will find a small lock n' lock
container with a set of rules/directions and some dice inside it,
and 6 small nalgene jars numbered 1-6.
After reading the rules/directions, you will roll one die (the
extra dice are just in case somebody takes one or more of the dice
in the container), note the number rolled, and open the nalgene jar
with the corresponding number to find out which of 6 caches is your
assigned cache. The note inside the jar with a number matching the
number you rolled will give you instructions on how to
find/complete this cache.
RETURN THE DIE TO THE LOCK N' LOCK AFTER ROLLING, DO NOT TAKE
THE DIE/DICE WITH YOU!!! THE NEXT CACHER WILL NEED IT JUST AS MUCH
AS YOU DID!!!
Just to prepare you for your possible challenges, you may be
tasked with any of the following caches at "Roll of the Die":
- A bushwhack - prepare for rough country
- A hydro-cache - bring swimming stuff and a mask/goggles
- A hard to find micro container
- An offset cache, requiring the use of a compass
- A traditional (your basic vanilla) cache
- A cryptogram leading the solver to a cache container
There are 6 caches out there, spread out over a fair amount of
space, so a group of cachers attempting this cache could
conceivably all end up going to different locations out of sight or
sound from each other...all of the cache locations are lovely.
Nobody will be watching, of course, but I encourage cachers to
hunt the cache the die assigns them (as opposed to looking through
the jars to find the one they would prefer to hunt)...if there is
ice on the lake, feel free to roll again if you come up with the
assignment to go after the hydrocache.
Enjoy, and share your adventures in your logs and in your
photos.
