Fairmount Park is a short roadside ravine leading beneath the Admiral Way Bridge. It is a great place for joggers to make a loop trip around Alki. Before the settlers arrived, Fairmount Park was a favorite Indian campsite during the berry-picking season. It was part of an immense ravine, which in 1907 was named Fairmount Gulch after a 4,000 acre model park in Philadelphia. Grand visions at one time included plans for constructing the West Seattle Stadium in this area, but sliding hillsides and empty city coffers put a stop to it. These few acres were donated as a natural ravine in 1913.
