Geocache Description:

Cache located near the summit of Cold Mountain, elevation 6030 feet. It is just off the Cold Mountain Trail that splits off the Art Loeb Trail.

The cache is a green ammo box with a large Geocaching sticker on it - see photos associated with SuperDennis' log. There are two ways to get to it. The shortest is to park at the parking area just past the Daniel Boone Scout Camp, and head up the Art Loeb Trail to Deep Gap. From Deep Gap take the Cold Mountain Trail to the summit. This route is about 5 miles one way and gains about 2800 feet in elevation. It is a challenging trail for children. The other way to get there is to park off National Forest Road 816. This road is off the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 7 miles west of the Hwy 276 and Blue Ridge Parkway intersection. From this parking area, take the Art Loeb Trail north towards Deep Gap. From Deep Gap take the Cold Mountain Trail to the summit. This route is about 10 miles one way and has areas that will be challenging to cross for small children. You can pick up a trail map at a Pisgah National Forest Ranger Station. The cache contains a logbook and assorted goodies. Enjoy some of the most beautiful views in North Carolina from this trail.
