The posted coordinates are NOT those of the cache. They are to the BlockBuster in Scotts Valley. Read on to see why....
The actual cache is located within 3 miles of these coords.
This cache is a little different that what you are used to. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite movies with my fellow cachers and make it all tied into a cache as well! To gain the coordinates to the cache you will need to watch "Chasing Amy" made by director and writer Kevin Smith. (I was originally going to use 4 of his movies and make this a 'virtual-multi' to get all the coords but I wasn't sure how well this was going to go over so I'll start with my favorite of his movies. If this is well-received I'll do more of them and maybe tie-in a bonus-cache for those who do all of them).
Ahhh, my favorite movie of the bunch! I've watched this movie countless times and still laugh out loud when I do. According to Kevin Smith "Clerks {his first movie} was over-praised" & "Mallrats {his second movie} was over-bashed" so he figured the 3rd time was the charm. This movie was produced for $250,000 by Kevin & his friend Scott Mosier's production company "View Askew Productions" and took in more than $12,000,000 in the first 5 months it was out in theaters.
THE PUZZLE:
You are solving for:
AAº BB.CCD
EEEº FF.GGH
These are in the order that they appear in the movie. Don't miss the forest for the trees (meaning don't get so tied up in looking for the details that you miss the dialogue of the movie). I've provided enough clues so you can recognize the scene where the clue is coming.
AA: The first one is easy. Just as the movie starts there is a billboard announcing the convention (i.e. "...the ____ annual convention...."). Take that number as A and place a 7 next to it for AA. Now you've got the first part. Enjoy!
BB: Take the time that Holden is supposed to be at "Meow Mix" and reverse the first two numbers. For example if it was 3:00 your answer would be 30 (by taking the time as 03:00).
CC: At the bar, Alyssa tells Holden how many years of tap-dancing she took. Multiply that number by 10 and subtract 5 to get CC.
D: There is a banner behind the stage at the bar. How many glasses/pints of Pete's Wicked Ale are on the banner? Divide that number by 2 to get D. Enjoy the song!
EEE: How many episodes of the cartoon do the MTV executives want to produce? This gives you EE. Take the second digit of this number as the third E and you've got EEE.
FF: When Holden calls Alyssa from the train station she is wearing a hockey jersey. What is the first digit on her jersey? This is FF.
GG: When Banky is drawing the picture for Holden there is money in the middle of the road. Subtract 6 from the value of the money to get GG.
H: After "The Meeting", how many months is it before the next scene? Subtract 5 from that number to get H.
This movie is R-rated and should be watched by adults only. The language and material can be crude and should not be viewed/heard by children. All of his movies are comedies (although Chasing Amy is more of a comedic drama).
The final cache location is child-friendly since the movie is not (keep an open mind and bring your sense of humor and you'll be fine!). The specific trail that this cache is located off does not allow dogs, sorry. This cache is NOT nighttime accessible. You are looking for a medium-sized Tupperware container. It will hold medium to large items. The rating is based on 2 methods of getting to this cache although there are many. All should be about equal.
Once you've found the cache, head about .19 miles East for a great view!
As with our other caches, there is a FTF PRIZE for the cacher who gets there first. Please trade even to keep up the quality of the cache, thanks.
