The site, Cublington Spinney was planted in the 1970's by Buckinghamshire County Council to celebrate the overturning of a descision to site London's third airport here. Had it gone ahead then this area and the surrounding villages would have been leveled to make way for a four runway international airport. There is a monument and plaque in the parking area on the eastern side of the road and some background here.
If you park in the obvious parking area, then you may end up crossing a road which is straddled by the spinney. Take a little care whilst doing this as, whilst it is a relatively quiet country road, the location is at a junction on a blind bend with long, wide straights on either side which means that traffic can be travelling quite quickly.
