in our disclaimer.
The Sound of Music in Maine Cache is designed for those travelers
who need a break to stretch their legs and a break from that CD
they've been listening to over and over for the past three hours.
Per the request of Maine Department of Transportation folks . .
. please avoid walking on the leachfield (for you folks who are
connected to City Sewer Systems and have no idea what this area is
. . . it's the green grassy rectangular area with the "candy
cane"-like PVC plastic pipes. You can get to this cache by walking
alongside the woodline. Also . . . if you see any folks from the
DOT eye-balling you as you go towards or leave the cache please
make a special point to identify yourself as a geocacher since they
have no problem with geocaching, but are safety conscious and want
to make sure that nothing illegal is going on at this rest area.
Thanks.
This is a theme cache. All items other than signature items,
travel bugs and CDs/casettes will be removed.
The theme of this cache is "traveling music" with the idea behind
this cache being that travelers on I-95 (no particularly scenic
spot here, sorry) can stop, stretch their legs and then trade out
one CD or casette for another.
I believe that many of us have unused CDs kicking around the house
that we don't listen to very often (i.e. Yanni and his Christmas
albumn) which would make a good addition to this cache (for me this
was a Bon Jovi and Garth Brooks CD by the way). Conversely, maybe
you have a favorite musical artist or band and would love to let
other cachers experience this same music by placing one of your
favorite CDs in this cache (or more likely going out and buying
another copy of that CD.)
To get this cache going I've stocked it with over $30 in CDs
representing different music genres. If anyone wants to add in an
extra CD or throw in a CD and not make a swap this would also be
appreciated by myself and by our fellow traveling geo-cachers as it
will offer even more musical choices when swapping.
There are some rules to swapping on this cache.
1) Swaps should be even. In other words, a CD for a CD, casette
tape for a casette tape, 8-track for an 8-track.
2) CDs and casettes should be originals and not dubbed (we don't
want to step on any copyright infringement laws and this way we
don't end up with a whole bunch of folks trading in their dubbed CD
of Bavarian polkas for a brand-new Nickleback CD for example.)
3) You are limited to one swap . . . this will hopefully allow
other geo-cachers an opportunity to have some choice in their
selection (i.e. we don't want someone cleaning out every polka CD
in the cache, right?)
4) I would ask that if you make an exchange of CDs or casettes
that you drop them in a baggie as I have done . . . this will
hopefully ensure that the CD or tape stays dry.
Final word: At the time of this placement I was unable to get a
WAAS lock on my GPSr (most likely due to the fact that at the end
of March there was a movement of some satellites . . .
