Geocache Description:

This is the first of some "Local Landmarks" that I will be placing around my area. If you have any landmarks around you that fit the description below, feel free to throw out some in your area as well! If you do so, please use the same title format - "LL #X - Local Landmarks - XXXXXXXXXX" If the landmark relates to a business or or anything that may coflict with cache guidelines, a number will work, or perhaps a more creative solution ;)

I am defining a "Local Landmark" as a place around you where, if someone asks where you are or where you're going, you can say "such and such" and anyone will know what you're talking about. This location fits the bill perfectly.

This particular location is located on the corner of Devon and Canfield, just across the line in Park Ridge, IL. There is a store on this corner, open for around 50 years, that anyone within a 10 mile radius knows. You can literally ask anyone "Where is this place?" and anyone will be able to tell you although doing so will instantly mark you as a tourist.

What makes this particular location a landmarks is despite the fact that this place is part of a nation-wide chain, it's such an integral part of the community, that the name alone identifies it to local residents. Not the chain, just this one location.

If you were to tell someone, "I'm at (for example) Denny's," you would then need to speficy the street address, city, and directions. Not so with this location.

Here's a few items I found online about this beloved location -

"A sure sign of Spring is the when the lines start at this [place]. The place gets mobbed on the first nice day and pretty much stays that way throughout the summer."

"On a warm summer night this place has a line out the door and every bench outside occupied by couples, teens, baseball teams or scout troops. You'll see the bikes and skateboards parked outside."

The Cache is placed on City property outside the location. There is no need to approach or enter any place of business to retreive this cache and street parking is readily available.

This is a micro, cleverly hidden if I do say so myself. There is no writing instrument _IN_ the cache, but one is provided. :). The container is unique, in that I've never heard of it before. The hint is kinda a give away, so only use it if you need it. Difficulty set high because after 5:00 PM (and sometimes before) stealth will be impossible.

Congrats to flydad for the FTF!
