Belle Isle Fall CITO and Pot Luck Picnic Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

-allenite-: Greetings,

As this event has long since past (over a month), I am archiving it to prevent it from showing up on searches and the map by cachers in the area.

Thank you,

Geocache Description:

Belle Isle has had geocaches on the island for years, lets give back to the island the way cachers can,
a good clean up!

This clean up will be open to all geocachers and the public that may join in to help,
please make them feel a part of our community.

2014 Has many new and exciting changes here on Belle Isle, most notable is the new management being Michigan Department of Natural Resources. It also is the start of the 8th year of the bi annual Geocaching CITO event here. Once again we will be joining with the folks from The Detroit Zoo and Nature Center to work clean up on the east end of the island.

Meet us at the nature center by 10:00 am.
Clean up begins about 10:30 sharp, and we will work until 12:30 pm.
At that time we will be meeting for the pot luck lunch at the nature center.
I will supply the hot dogs, please log what dish you might be bring to the pot luck.

Like all CITO events you should be sure to bring old clothes for the clean up and a change of clothes for afterwards if needed. We hope that some of our Canadian friends, scout troops, family and friends as
all are welcome and needed.

Be sure to bring those things that can make the job easier for you. Some of the things you may want to bring with you is; sturdy gloves, boots, and most important is 5 gallon buckets as they work very well for sharp or glass items. I have personally purchased 20 heavy duty mechanical trash pickers that will be available as well as some that the Detroit Nature Center has on hand.
Trash bags will be provided by the nature center.

The Recreation Passport will be phased in gradually beginning February 10, 2014. Vehicles will not need the Passport during the first year of state management until their next license plate registration renewal date. For example, if the vehicle license plate registration renewal date is in March 2014, then the Passport is not needed on that vehicle to enter Belle Isle until March. If the renewal date is in November 2014, than a Recreation Passport is not needed until November. Once a full year has cycled (February 2015), all vehicles entering the park must have a Recreation Passport. The Recreation Passport applies only to vehicles, not individuals. Pedestrians, bicyclists and those using public transportation can enter the park for free and will not need the Passport. The DNR is working with the city of Detroit to re-establish a public bus route to the island.
Annual Recreation Passport is $11.00
