         Cache Is Not At The Posted Coordinates

Mr. Toot is the mascot not only of the North Iowa Band Festival, but also for Mason City as a whole.  His image has appeared on everything from T-Shirts to business cards to city light poles. Now his image also appears on the geocaching map just south of Mason City Iowa.  Each of these puzzles will include a fact or story in theme with the art series.  Some may also include a question or two for you to answer correctly to find the coordinates.

Meredith Willson

In a photo from 1953 you see Meredith Willson at Iowa State conducting the Iowa State Marching Band (south of State Gym). This is near the stadium, Clyde Williams Field. ISC's Frank Piersol is seen at left. Meredith Willson wrote For I, For S for the Iowa State folks in 1953. Meredith Willson was a Mason City native who was later known and famous for writing the book, the music, and the lyrics for the Broadway musical, The Music Man. .

Meredith Willson and the birth of a new fight song This song, "For I, For S", is still often performed as part of the traditional pregame show.
