RI CITO, Kayak, and Maintenance Event Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

Cool Librarian: Thanks to all of those who attended, both in person and "remotely!" The event was a great success, and I plan to hold another in July. I am closing this event for remote logs. Peace.

Geocache Description:

Come one and all to the RI CITO event! Date is Sunday May 1st, 2005 from 10am - 2pm. In the case of rain (or, given this winter, snow), event will take place Sunday May 15.

*******UPDATE 4-28-05*********
Keeping my fingers crossed - looks like the weather will hold for for this Sunday!! Please put a watch on the page or check back Saturday evening if the weather is still iffy. Thanks for all of the feedback. We went to stroll around the site this evening - there is trash to pick up! Hope to see you all there.

This is a CITO and kayak event being held at "The Cove" in Portsmouth, RI, also the site of my Spectacle Island - Kayak Cache #1. Date: Sunday, May 1 Time: 10am - 2pm Raindate: Sunday, May 15. Coordinates: Are for parking area off of Route 24 NORTH in RI.

There are two ways to log this event:
If you are local and want to join us for some caching, kayaking, and, of course, CITO then come on over!

If you are not local, or can't attend the event, then post photographic evidence on this cache page, between May 1 and May 8, that you have performed CITO and cache maintenance at your cache sites (or at least some of them, if you own many caches). It's spring - time to get your caches in order!

On to the particulars of the day:
You will have the opportunity to log the kayak cache, as well as one other that will be hidden onsite and activated for the event.

For those of you who do not own a kayak, there will be at least two available to borrow for the short paddle over. If you are nervous about paddling, I'm sure some of the experienced paddlers will be on hand to join you. The boats we have are VERY stable and easy to handle. And, being a short paddle, you are never more than 500 feet or so from shore. PFDs (life jackets) will be available (of course!). Yes, the water will still be cold. But, I have paddled here may times in May without incident. I even had to take a swim after my boat floated offshore, and it wasn't THAT bad. Bring a change of clothes and water shoes. The cove is fairly shallow and well protected with no or minimal surf - a great place for beginners! There is room to picnic, and I have seen people grilling here before. Lawn chairs/blankets would be good to bring. Land to roam around on and coves to explore by boat. Clamming and quahoging here is legal, so if you are so inclined, bring a rake! Lot's of fishing as well - bring your pole!******Bathroom Update****** DUE TO THE RELATIVELY LOW TURN-OUT, AND POTENTIAL RAIN-OUT, I HAVE CANCELED THE PORTA-JOHN. OH WELL, WE HAVE ALL PEED IN THE WOODS BEFORE.... WE ARE NOT FAR FROM CIVILIZATION, SO IT'S A SHORT DRIVE TO A GAS STATION IF NEED BE. There are MANY caches on nearby Aquidneck Island and in Bristol and surrounding. The RI DEM has donated bags and gloves for the clean-up. Please feel free to bring extras if you wish. Please RSVP as soon as you can, and please indicate if you will be bringing a kayak/canoe. If you are willing to share, please note that as well. There will be a TB table! Please drop your bugs in advance, if possible. Special thanks to Speedy38 for her help with tables and tent - very cool! For questions/comments, please e-mail me or post to the thread in the NE Forum.
