Geocache Description:

The oratory at the summit

Croagh Patrick is a 764 m mountain and an important site of pilgrimage. On "Reek Sunday", the last Sunday in July every year, over 25,000 pilgrims climb the mountain, many of whom climb barefoot.

Traditionally, the pilgrimage starts at Murrisk Abbey (founded in 1456), which you will find at the above co-ordinates.

Find the year that Squadron Leader Garvey was killed in a flying accident in Shawbury. Let this year be 19xy.

The coordinates for the final cache, which is near the summit, is N 53° 45.(x+1)93 W009° 39.71(y-2)

Drive up to the carpark at the bottom of the mountain, directly opposite the point where the road from the abbey meets the main road.

Here begins a challenging climb, with a rocky meandering path leading up the mountain. It will take about 3 hours to get up and down, but it is well worth the effort.

Please bring your own pen to log your visit.
