The cache is a small clip lock container with a log book and space for a small trackable or swapables.
After finding the cache follow the footpath with the brook on your right hand side, minding the steep slope to the water.
This 3.5 mile walk based around Hope Lane (hence the name) will take you from the southern edge of Poynton out along the brook side to Hope Lane and out into the countryside. The walk then crosses fields before a short stretch along Dickens Lane, then walking alongside Poynton Brook back to the start. The walk is a mixture of paths (which can be muddy at times) and relatively quiet lanes. There are a couple of areas of busier traffic so please be aware and keep control of pets and children. Parking is available at Lostock Road, on Poynton Industrial Estate or off Vernon Road
Route description
From the junction of First Avenue on the industrial estate and London Road South look for the footpath sign near the woods. Follow the footpath through the woods joining Hope Lane. Proceed down the lane taking the footpath at the end (slightly left) and then cross the first footbridge to Horatio's Hopeful Hobble (HHH) 1 "Bridge 1". Follow the footpath to the right (with the brook on your right hand side – mind the slope!) until the next footbridge is reached in the vicinity of HHH 2 "Bridge 2". Cross this footbridge and follow the footpath until the end of Hope Lane is reached. After finding HHH 3 "Hanging Around" walk up Hope Lane passing HHH 4 "Forgotten Gate" and HHH 5 "Abandon Hope". At HHH 5 "Abandon Hope" do not follow the footpath but leave Hope Lane and turn left onto Skellorn Green Road. Walk past the end of Moggie Lane straight on to Wood Lanes West up the road to HHH 6 "Still Hanging Around" and pass this before turning left onto the cobbled road before Well Farm. Walk along the cobbled road to the sharp left hand bend near where you will find HHH 7 "Cobbled Road". Instead of following the sharp bend round to the left, go straight on and through the kissing gate and follow the footpath bearing left through another kissing gate in the hedge. The footpath then goes along the side of a field with views of Manchester before going through another gate and turning left. Follow the footpath to Narrow Lane and find HHH 8 "Hope Springs Eternal". Carry on down the lane to the main road (Moggie Lane) and turn right on this, crossing the bridge onto Dickens Lane (beware of traffic). Carry on down Dickens Lane passing (with a slight diversion) “Into The Coppice” and continuing past the end of the footpath to "South". Carry on down the road carrying on past the end of the path where “Alley, Alley, Alley - Poynton High School” is situated. Shortly after this, turn left down a footpath between hedges leading to HHH 9 "Trolls Bridge". Turn right here and follow Poynton Brook all the way to London Road South passing HHH 10 "First Poynton Scouts". Then turn left along London Road South back to the start of the walk.
