Geocache Description:

A sequel to Behind the Lines 1

This should be attempted only by those who have successfully completed Behind the Lines 1. You will need the knowledge that you gained from your previous mission, including how to use the Vigenere ciper. It may be useful to review the instructions for the first mission.

You will continue to operate as a Continental spy behind the British lines on Aquidneck Island, gathering information and filing a report. You will visit three locations, each of which offers a splendid view and a chance to learn some history (and to gather information for your report). Each of these locations is open to the public. There is parking at each objective, and very little walking will be required. You should arouse no suspicion as you gather information at the first two stops, but please avoid being observed by "Tories" as you search for the cache at the final objective. You may want to take the cache container to your vehicle to do your logging and trading. Note: There is no need to trespass on private property at any stage of the hunt, so don't cross any fences.

Print out the messages for this mission before you begin. Also print the map, which may help you find your way to your first rendezvous.

Proceed to the listed coordinates, where you will meet a Continental agent who helped secure vital assistance from a foreign power. On the way, you will pass the house of another great man who returned the favor. The key to decode the first message is a name that links these two men in an obscure way. To learn this name, you will need to visit the first man, and do a bit of research about the second man. Making the connection without any further assistance will be difficult, but not impossible. You may contact headquarters through the usual channels to request a hint, which will be provided only to those who successfully completed the first mission.

The coordinates in the first message are rounded to two decimal places to reduce the labor of decoding. That should not prevent you from finding the objective, where you will learn the key for the second message.

To obtain permission to log a find, submit your report to headquarters. You must include the answers to the following questions--one for each of the three locations you must visit:

  1. What is the key to the first message, and what is it's significance?
  2. What has the general apparently misplaced?
  3. Who marched down Union Street?

Accessibility in snow -First three locations will be no problem. The final may be slightly more difficult in deep snow.
