Geocache Description:

This is a two part micro multi-cache in Senoia, GA

At the first coords; if you’ve seen the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes”, than you should recognized this place. Yep, it is the fateful spot at the beginning of the movie where poor ol’ Buddy Threadgoode meets his demise. Standing in the middle; if you look off to the west you will be facing the same direction as Ruth and Idgie while they watched Buddy get himself run over by a train. Off the NW corner is Mamma Threadgoode’s house. Mamma’s house and street were also used as a set on the movie “Pet Cemetery”.

Turn to the NE corner and you will see a power pole with a vertical number on it. . Take the top two numbers, add 55 and plug this new number into the X’s of the North coords for part two. Now take the bottom two numbers, add 51 and plug this new number into the X’s of the West Coords for part two. Easy!

Part Two coords: N33 17.9XX W084 33.2XX

Two intersecting railroads are much of the reason that Senoia is located where it is. After the Civil war, Senoia saw the completion of the Savannah, Griffin and North Alabama Railroad, which runs East-West through the town. The railway went from Griffin to Newnan. It was extended to Carrollton in 1872. After SG&NA went into receivership the railway was acquired by Central of Georgia Railway in 1901. In 1963 Southern Railway gain control of the Central of Georgia. Then in 1982 Southern merged with Norfolk and Western, but the Central continues to be an operating unit of the Norfolk Southern Corporation. Although few, if any, locomotives or rail cars have any Central markings. Then in 1990 Norfolk Southern abandoned the Senoia to Griffin section of this railway. The North-South railway in Senoia is operated by CSX and today Norfolk Southern and CSX are the dominant railroads in Georgia.

So now that you know a little of the history of Senoia, come on down and enjoy some southern hospitality. You can not park next to the second part this cache, but you can park across the street. Be careful of cars while crossing the street.

***5/18/07 Stage two will now require some extra stealth. Hope you enjoy the improvements the city has made around town.
