The cache is one in a series of citizen scientist & change observation geocaches placed by the Anchorage Museum. Our goal is to attract seasoned geocachers and new or wannabe geocachers to the idea of going to specific locations (around Anchorage and Alaska) and making and recording their observation of a specific view and changes they see. The goal is to capture images over time, i.e., hours, days, weeks, months, and years that will help us all see changes in weather, phenology (the vegetation on the mountains changing color), snowfall and melt, and glacial ice retreat or growth. The view from this geocache is of Middle Glacier.
Besides signing the log, we're asking you take and post a photo of the view in landscape format. Place the short edge of your smartphone or camera against the 1.25 x 3-inch aluminum tag, pointing your camera in the direction of the arrow on the tag.
This alignment will help us link the images over time. The photos will be used to share information with museum visitors and others about our changing environment, and you will help us by supplying the photos and observations! Don't assume that there have been no changes since the previously posted photo. We are also interested in those subtle changes. When you log your find, please tell us about the weather and time/date the photo was taken.
Have fun, and take the time to observe and share a view of your surroundings!
If you have an idea for an addition to this series, drop us a line.
Congrats to arwenalaska and GaryAK for co- FTF!
