A decon container located in an out of the way corner of Lower City Park, Iowa City. The cache is large enough for small tradeables and trackables. Please bring a pen.
This area of the park is a great place to stop and relax, watch the river or enjoy a good book. When logging your visit to the cache, please share the titles of book(s) that you have recently read or would recommend to fellow cachers for their “winter reading list.” In addition, please include a brief explanation for why you liked this particular book. Thank you.
The cache is located north of the baseball diamonds and not too far from the bike path. During the summer months, lower city park features a small amusement park with five different rides for the little kids. The park also features a nice playground, tennis courts, bocce courts, horseshoe pits, and numerous picnic areas. Ample parking is generally available with just a short walk to the cache.
Although this area is mostly flat, we are rating the terrain higher due to rugged footing near ground zero (sticks, branches, brush, and possibly mud). The area is prone to flooding at times, and is close to the edge of the river. Accessing the cache will require a few feet of bushwhacking, depending on direction of your approach. Best approach to the cache is to enter the thicket and come in from the north along the edge of a concrete culvert. Be careful near the edge of the river.
Be advised that when placing the cache, we also noted some poison ivy in the area. However, the poison ivy is mostly avoidable if one is careful. You may need mosquito repellent in the summer months. We are rating the terrain higher due to some potential hazards in the area, this one is not very kid-friendly the last few feet. Hunt this cache at your own risk.
Iowa City park hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Have fun!
