Description:
White Clay Creek State Park is a 3,300 acre park with over 30 miles of trails. These trails connect to nearby Middle Run Valley Park and White Clay Creek Preserve in Pennsylvania. The Bryan Field's loop trail crosses meadow, passes a corn field and takes you through a mature hardwood forest of maple, oak, and poplar.

Watch out for bikers, they frequent this trail often. If you take the Post Mark Trail cut-off, you can see the "Post Marked West" monument marking the location where the famous survey team started the well-known Mason-Dixon Line that runs for more than 200 miles due west from this point. The cement marker was donated in 1952 by Mr. S. Hallock duPont, owner of the property at that time. Mason described this location in his journal, saying,

"The point 15 miles South of the Southernmost Point of the City of Philadelphia is situated in Mill Creek Hundred in the County of Newcastle, in a Plantation belonging to Mr. Alexander Bryan. The Middle of the Front of Mr. Bryan’s House, bears from the point 37’ 52’’ Northwesterly distant 23.38 chains (each chain 22 yards). It is close by the East side of a small Run, the Head of which is due North distant 5.00 chains. From the Point to the Middle of a small rivulet called Muddy Run, on a due South course is 7.15 chains."

It is often thought that the Mason-Dixon line was the divider for the north and the south during the Civil War. In fact, it was to settle a dispute between the Penn Family of Pennsylvania and the Calverts of Maryland.
