Note: April 8, 2004
This cache has been adopted by the Cool Librarian. The container is now a smaller Rubbermaid filled with goodies for all ages. Please think smaller with trade items. Same location, but coords have been updated.
Caratunk is a beautiful piece of property filled with birds and wildlife. Several trails run through here. According to a sign at the site, trails are being re-marked and a new trail map is in the works. Though your GPS will say approximately .35 miles to the cache, you are looking at at least .5 miles - please stick to the trails, as bushwhacking in here is a no-no!
Cache is located near the intersection of the yellow and Blue trails. You can access the yellow trail from the red trail, or go through both fields (check out the birds!) and get directly on the yellow trail. Right now, parts of the yellow trail are pretty wet, so be prepared. Look for the wall made of boulders. There may be some poison ivy in the area, but if you stick to the trails and the "social" trail leading to the cache, you should be fine.
If you can, please think about leaving a small donation at the building near parking area.
It seems that some people have hunted this at night - bad idea! Refuge is open sunrise to sunset, so PLEASE DO NOT HUNT AFTER DARK!
