A geologically themed cache near the site of a nuclear explosion.
Great spot to find volcanic rocks ejected from a violent eruption about 30 million years ago. Enjoy the geology lesson in the cache container; it describes the geology of the area and the nuclear explosion in 1968.
Many geologically themed trade items in small to medium sized cache container.

We drove down Hwy 6 from Ely to Tonopah in our quest to finish up the Nevada DeLorme Challenge. We drove into the Project Faultless site and walked about to veiw the aftermath of the detenation. Found the pillar, read the attatched plaque and took a few photos. Thanks for the lesson in history & geology, as well as the cache!

 August 21, 2009 by Me & Bucky (8275 found)

Bucky & I found this one while cruising south on the fifth day of our trip down to Las Vegas from Northeast Oregon. We stayed last night in the parking lot of Lunar Crater, and would visit several volcanic features, Project Faultless, and the oldest cache in Nevada before getting to Las Vegas by the end of the day.

Last one here at Project Faultless. While walking along the scarp, I was thinking about the amount of energy released by 1 megaton of TNT. Having seen 4 pounds of TNT explode, it is unfathomable to think about a detonation which releases 500,000,000 times more energy all at one time.

Thanks for the great cache!!
