Geocache Description:

The 6th Annual Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together.

Blue Line Geocachers Logo

The Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together 2012 will follow the same theme as the previous five years. An event in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, in the middle of the Winter where geocachers from all over the North East get together to geocacache, visit with geocaching friends, make new friends, share stories, trade geocoins and signature items, and just plain ol' have fun in the snow. This years event will be the third year the event will be hosted under the BlueLine Geocachers.

Those of you who have never attended the Mid-Winter event, see the following links for previous events:

This is an interim listing, in order to get the information out early enough so those geocachers who wish to come up earlier than the event date can make accomodation arrangements.

The following info will not change:

What: The 6th Annual Mid-Winter Geocaching Get-Together.
When: February 25th, 2012
Where: Long Lake Town Hall / Fire Hall (N 43° 58.352 W 074° 25.215)
Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 PM
Lunch: 12:00 PM
Contest winners: 1:00 PM

Lunch will be catered (it is not mandatory, lunch is optional) and more details on this to come. February can be a month of much snow. If you have snowshoes or cross-country skies - do bring them (Not needed - but will help). Long Lake is also a great place to snowmobile. Many of the caches will be accessible via a snowmobile. If you own a snowmobile, do bring it.

As in the past, many geocachers choose to come up on the Friday before the event and some choose to stay until the Sunday after the event. If you are interested in accomodations for the Long Lake Area, please visit this link

Contact GeoLobo if your interested in accomodations that are pet friendly.
If you make a reservation, please post on the forums and the event page where you will be staying (Hotel/Motel) so others who are interested in knowing will know. Thanks

This is officially a one day event. You are not required to get accomodations. Please feel free to come up Saturday morning the day of the event and stay for just the day if you like.

The Town Hall where we are having the event does NOT have WIFI or an internet connection at all. Some people have been able to pick up a nearby signal in the past, but i wouldn't rely on it. Some hotels have WIFI, you will have to call and confirm. Many of the restaurants have WIFI.
The Town of Long Lake now has a Cell Tower (at this time, AT&T only).

Decorate an Ammo Can

This years contest is the Decorate an Ammo Can contest. Only 30 Cal and 50 Cal cans allowed. All Ammo cans remain the property of the contestant. You can paint them, decorate them, etc. Use your imagination. The cans do not have to be capable of withstanding the elements as an offical geocache hidden to be found. This is for the contest only. However, one of the categories will be judged based on its ability to be used as an official geocache, and therefore should be decorated in a way to withstand the elements. NOTE: The image below is of an ammo can "guinea gal" created for Bluegirl and GeoLobo's wedding. She had done such a great job on the ammo can, it has insprired me use this as this years contest. I am using this photo as an example. Sorry about the quality of the photo. I am the worse photographer ever!

Audra Zirnheld (guinea gal) Ammo Can

The Three Categories are:

1.) Best Decorative
2.) Best Traditional (can be placed as official geocache)
3.) Best Overall (covers both one and two)

Geocachers can submitt as many ammo can entries as they like, to be judged!

NOTE: The doors will open at 8:00 am. Registration is at 9:00 am. Those of you entering an ammo can into the Ammo Can Contest should drop their cans off at 9:00 am at registration. This gives attendees time to really look over the cans before lunch. Each Attendee will be given three sheets of small paper at lunch time. There will be three containers (one for each category) to cast your vote. You will write your GeoNick (handle) and the Can's number (assigned at registration) on a small sheet of paper and place it in the category container. Each attendee can only vote three times. You can cast your vote on three separate containers in three different categories, or the same container in all three categories. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask before you cast your vote. Judging is from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm (During Lunch).
