Irving Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Michael: Received at Groundspeak today.

Dear Michael: Yes, the Corps of Engineers is requesting that these additional caches be archived. We are prepared to work with each cacher to resolve the ammo can container problem, so if you can notify the owners to contact me, I would be pleased to work with them to legitimize their caches. A simple one page form needs to be completed here at the project office, address Tuttle Creek Project Office, 5020 Tuttle Creek Blvd., Manhattan KS 66502, phone (785)539-8511. Ask them to call me first to set up an appointment. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,

Paul Weidhaas

Geocache Description:

Located in Irving, KS. Easy terrain and if you chose to you could drive to within 10' of the final cache. Hiking is suggested.

Irving, KS is a ghost town. All the structures were removed 40 years ago due to the construction of Tuttle Creek Dam and the resulting lake. Other than the Flood of 1993, the lake has never made it this far north and much of the infrastructure of this town remains. 40 plus years of growth hide sidewalks, driveways and foundations. The coordinates given take you to a mail box that remains at the town site. The final coordinates of the cache are both inside and outside the mail box. It will take a bit of imagination when you find the final cache but it is in what was once someones front yard and you will be walking and driving on what were once city streets. The mail box contains a log book of its own. I urge you to read it and add your own thoughts. The cache is an ammo box placed behind a tree so that it cannot be seen from the "street."
