Geocache Description:

Weathernowcast dared anyone to put a cache here! So, I did.

So blame him for this!

28º Sunny. With snow showers.

Bearfort Mountain is the highest spot in Passaic County. But, there are five points which might qualify as being the highest! Weathernowcast put a cache by the three points southwest of Terrace Pond. There is another high point by the Bearfort Triangulation Station. Then there is this one!

Everyone from the County Highpointers on down will tell you that this is a nasty bushwhack. It is! The County Highpointers will tell you that the .36 mile bushwhack from the highpoint on the pipeline is even worse. I'm glad I didn't come in that way!!

If your GPS tells you to turn off Terrace Pond North Trail when you are .17 mile away, DON'T DO IT! Bearfort Mountain is a concentric ring of ridges, some fifty feet tall. You should leave Terrace Pond North Trail at N 41 08.465 W 074 23.739. At this point, you are .23 mile from the High Point. Head north along the ridge that you are on, until you are close, then switch to the ridge to the east.

This is a nasty bushwhack! There are greenbrier, mountain laurel, steep ridges, and rock scrambling. Though I didn't see any bear or cows.

Since this is a nasty bushwhack, I tried to make the hide as easy as possible. Look at the attached photo. The cache is hidden in a rock crevice. The end of the rock shattered (as is common with Purple Puddingstone.) Thre are probably very few muggles here, but I used upright branches to hide the cache container, which is a Geocaching container of the lock and Lock variety. I dropped off my FTF geocoin.

Good luck. And don't blame me for all the scratches on your legs!
