The winter of 2006/2007 will be one none of us will soon forget.
It seemed like it was just one major weather event after another.
While most of us hopefully survived the storms with little or only
minor damage, many State Parks did not fare so well. In February
2007 the State Parks put out a call on their website for volunteers
to help with storm clean-up. Dash Point Park was one of the parks
listed as needing help.
This is our opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the
State Parks and offer them a helping hand. We'll be working on
storm debris removal. So you'll need to bring work gloves and be
prepared for a good afternoon of work. We are still working out the
details and will likely post a list of tools that we may need
volunteers to bring.
We will have something for the little ones to do to help out as
well. There will be a traditional CITO trash pick up for those who
are unable to help out with the heavier work.
I'm working on some goodies for give-aways and will post a few
teasers for you closer to the event. (I have a Pay-it-Forward coin,
a Groundspeak Volunteer Coin or two)
We need volunteers to bring work gloves. If you have any of the
following please bring it as well: eye protection, garden rakes,
chain saw (contact me first please), tree pruners, limb cutters,
etc.
While scouting the park we also spotted a few great locations
for caches so there may be a few new caches placed soon.
Now for the details. We'll be meeting at
the Group Camp Area starting around noon on CITO Day Saturday April
14th. It is pretty much a straight shot when you turn in the parks
main gate.(Across the road from the camping area) We are scheduled
to work from 1:00-4:00pm. If you could work longer that would be
great, we are planning to go to a nearby pizza place at around
6:30-7:00.
Please feel free to bring a brown bag lunch so you can stock up on
energy for an afternoon of rewarding work. We'll meet with the
volunteer coordinator and get our assignments and head off about
1:00 pm.
