Geocache Description:

You can choose your level of difficulty here, anything from a steep hike to technical rock climbing. Look at a contour map, scout the approaches out, and "choose wisely, grasshopper." There are no trails. Hint: Direct is not always best. This hike should be attempted only by those people familiar with orienteering and GPS, and only people in very good shape.

Horse Mountain is in the North Maine Woods and in any season other than winter will require paying a day use fee ($6/day) Gravel woods roads can take you to within 1/2 mile of the top. Hint: Leave the Pinkham Road near Mile 15 on a branch road called the Foster Rand Road heading northerly.(Use a Maine Gazetteer.) Cache is a large 5 gal white bucket. The spot I chose has great views of the surrounding area and Mnt. Katahdin. Pick a nice day.
